Leafing Lemons Behind (Temporarily)
After our lemon trees became an unexpected snack for Caerphilly’s finest feathered residents (thanks, birds, but i love you anyway), we decided to shift direction. Less drama, more calm. Something green, fragrant, and happy to grow quietly by our side.
We turned to mint the kind of plant that feels like it’s always known what to do.
The Magic of Mint
I didn’t realise it at first, but mint is one of those plants that has followed us through time from back gardens to potion pots. Known for protection, healing, and clarity, it’s been used in teas, baths, and brews for centuries.
We just wanted something easy to grow…
But we got something a little enchanted instead.
Our mint (Mentha species) was grown from a cutting placed gently in water until it sent out roots like little silver threads. We called it Minty McMintface (because we’re serious herbalists, obviously).
Botanically, mint is a rhizomatous perennial which is a long way of saying it grows like it’s been blessed by the moon. Fast, wild, determined.
It likes:Moist, rich soil, Partial sunlight, A little respect, and a lot of trimming
A Plant with Power
Mint reminded us that magic doesn’t have to be loud. It can be subtle, green, and growing quietly in the corner of the kitchen.
It protects. It heals. It adds flavour.
And if you listen closely, it teaches you to start again gently, but with purpose.
From tiny leaves to big laughs, mint reminded us that even the smallest things can bring the biggest comfort.
